Its most distinguished feature is an extensive, nine court indoor tennis arena, the hugest of its kind in Brooklyn. Local and global tennis superstars visit the grounds, including Kazakhstan’s Aleksandr Nedovyesv and the earlier number one women’s player in the world, Dinara Safina. The R Baby Foundation, a charity helping hospital programs for risked infants, has selected MatchPoint as the location for its New York Tennis Tournament for two sequential years. The competition is played by Wall Street’s topmost financers and has raised more than $500,000.
Coney Island, a region typically lacking in leisure infrastructure, now has one of Brooklyn’s latest and most well-known facilities, MatchPoint NYC. Motivated by his ambition for athletics and pledge to South Brooklyn, businessperson Dmitry Druzhinsky co-founded the indulgent sports center in 2013 after observing a solid need in his community. Druzhinsky’s willingness to delivering New York’s leading fitness experience has caused in the complex becoming the favored site of families, professional athletes, charity events, and world-class tournaments.
The R Baby Foundation is the country’s only nonprofit organization aiming to save infants’ lives through improved pediatric care. To date, the organization has donated $8 million to hospital programs and saved more than one million lives, noted Dmitry Druzhinsky. The annual tennis tournament started in 2010 by Jason Pinsky is a big part of the success. “Six years ago I saw the foundation was doing a golf event, and I suggested we should do a tennis event. The first year was sort of a test and it went well, and the demand has been high ever since. We bring together a great group of competitive guys for a great cause,” he said, and in both 2015 and 2016, the Foundation proudly raised over $500,000 for childcare initiatives including telemedicine with pediatric experts, mobile simulation training programs, as well as conferences.
MatchPoint NYC is a three acre facility within Coney Island and features over 120,000 square feet of state of the art equipment and amenities, but its most famous offering is an expansive nine court indoor tennis center, the largest such facility in Brooklyn. The facility was co-founded by Dmitry Druzhinsky in 2013, after noticing a lack of recreational centers in the region. Stemming from his dedication to members, employees, and the surrounding community, the complex quickly became the selected venue for families, professional athletes, and cause driven charity events. “They are great to work with,” exclaims Darren Port, CEO of Powered by Professionals and an organizing member of this year’s tournament. “He has really gone out of his way to invite us to work with them, and that has helped make the event really special in the two years we have had it here. The foundation does a great job in keeping its expenses low to ensure that the money raised goes towards the cause, and MatchPoint’s generosity helps make that possible.”
